Gulu Lalvani founder and chairman of Binatone, the world’s fourth or fifth largest manufacturer of digital cordless phones.

Lalvani, born in Karachi and raised in Bombay, came to Britain as a student. He founded Binatone in 1958 with his brother Partap to import radios from Hong Kong. In 1989, Partap and he divided the business geographically and both brothers now own their own Binatone groups operating in different parts of the world. Today Binatone International Limited is one of the largest privately owned consumer electronics companies in UK. It enjoys nearly 15% market share in the domestic telephone sector in UK.

According to a new Asian rich list brought out by “The Daily Telegraph” in 2007, Gulu Lalvani and family (450 million pounds) have been listed as the fourth richest British Asian.
